Dummy ticket in Pune: which airport to put on your visa itinerary

Pune has relatively few international flights. For many visa itineraries, the departure therefore needs to be from Mumbai or through a domestic connection from Pune. A dummy ticket in Pune is ordered online and sent by email and WhatsApp. This guide explains the departure-airport choice and where to submit your application.

What Pune Airport can and cannot do

Pune's airport shares a runway with the Indian Air Force at Lohegaon, which limits the slots available to airlines and has kept its international schedule small. In August 2026, daily flights to Dubai and to Bangkok were operating again after a suspension, and other short-haul routes have come and gone. There are no long-haul flights, and plans announced for European services had not turned into a schedule we could confirm at the time of writing.

So if your destination is Dubai or Bangkok, a non-stop from PNQ is realistic. For anywhere else, a direct international departure from Pune does not exist and should not appear on an itinerary.

Three ways to write the itinerary

All three are acceptable to a consulate. A Pune address with a Mumbai departure is entirely ordinary and needs no explanation. You do not have to show how you get from Pune to Mumbai airport, and you should not add a bus or cab booking to the file.

What matters is that the first international departure and the final return correspond to the dates on your application form. With a domestic connection the international dates can differ from the Pune dates by a day, so read them carefully.

Navi Mumbai airport changes the picture slightly

Navi Mumbai International Airport, which began international flights in July 2026, is closer to Pune by road than the old Mumbai airport because it lies on the Pune side of the city. Its early international routes are short-haul Gulf flights. If you intend to fly from there, confirm the flight exists and that the itinerary shows the right code, NMI, since it is a different airport from BOM. The Mumbai page has more on the two airports.

Lodging your application without leaving Pune

VFS Global operates a joint visa application centre in Viman Nagar, a short distance from the airport. It was set up to host a large number of missions under one roof, including many Schengen states, the UK, Canada and Australia, and Japan visa applications for Pune are also accepted through VFS. The Czech Republic announced its own counter at the Pune centre as well.

Not every country is represented. Spain's contractor, BLS International, does not list a Pune centre, so Spain applicants go to Mumbai. Countries that require a consular interview may call you to Mumbai too. Check the centre list for your destination before assuming that a Pune appointment is possible, and take the exact address from your confirmation.

Who decides a Pune file

Pune has no visa-issuing consulates of the main destination countries. Maharashtra sits within the Mumbai consular area for Germany, France, Japan and most others, so a file submitted at Viman Nagar is delivered to Mumbai, or to Delhi for countries without a Mumbai mission.

For the United States, biometrics and the interview both take place in Mumbai on separate days, and a flight itinerary is not a required document. Students from Pune's universities applying for study visas should check their category first, because many study routes do not request a flight either, as the student visa page explains.

Timing when your file has to travel

A Pune submission adds a courier leg to the consulate and back. Two habits help:

• Choose travel dates with a wider margin than the minimum processing time quoted for the country.
• Order the reservation one or two days before the Viman Nagar appointment, so that most of its verifiable period falls after the file has reached the consulate.

If you are submitting in Mumbai instead, the same rule applies to that appointment date, not to the day you travel there.

Will a consulate question why a Pune resident is departing from Mumbai?

No. Pune has very few international flights, and departing from Mumbai is what most Pune travellers do. The departure city does not have to correspond to your home city.

Can my itinerary show a non-stop flight from Pune to Europe?

No such scheduled flight could be confirmed at the time of writing. Use Mumbai, or a connection through Delhi, Bengaluru or Dubai.

Is a PNQ to Delhi to London itinerary charged as multi-city?

A journey to one destination with a connection is an ordinary one-way or return. A trip visiting several destinations on separate flights is multi-city, with the same ₹799 / $10 reservation fee per passenger.

Do I have to go to Mumbai for a UK visa?

Not for biometrics, if an appointment is available at the Pune centre. The application itself is made online. Check availability when you book.
