Two US addresses, on two different days

The US Consulate General moved from Begumpet to a purpose-built campus in the Financial District at Nanakramguda in March 2023. Interviews are held there. Lodging a Schengen or Japan file in the city

VFS Global runs the Hyderabad centre used for most Schengen states, the UK, Canada and Japan. Its premises have changed over the years, so take the address from the appointment confirmation. Japan visa submissions at VFS in Hyderabad are by appointment, as walk-ins were ended at several southern centres in 2026.

These are the applications where the flight reservation is a listed document. It goes in with the file on the day, and its dates must correspond to the application form, the insurance and the leave letter. For Schengen countries the reservation should enter and leave the Schengen area on the dates you have declared, whichever hub you connect through. Realistic routings out of Shamshabad

HYD has non-stop long-haul flights to London Heathrow and Frankfurt at the time of writing, and an Amsterdam service was added in 2025, so check whether it runs on your dates. The Gulf is heavily served, with Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Jeddah and Riyadh among the destinations, and there are flights to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Colombo.

• USA and Canada: there is no scheduled non-stop. Travellers connect in Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt or London.
• Germany and central Europe: non-stop to Frankfurt, then a short onward flight.
• Southern Europe: typically one stop through a Gulf hub.
• Australia and New Zealand: one stop via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.
• Japan and South Korea: one stop via Singapore, Bangkok or Hong Kong.

Start the itinerary at HYD if you live in the city. Residents of Vijayawada or Visakhapatnam can start from their own airport where an international or connecting flight exists, or simply from Hyderabad if that is where they will board.

The summer student rush and what it means for timing

Hyderabad sends a very large number of students abroad each year, and the weeks before the autumn intake are the busiest at both the consulate and the application centres. Slots for other visa types in the city can be harder to get in that period, and appointments are sometimes offered at short notice.

If you are applying for a Schengen or Japan visa in May, June or July, book the slot first and order the reservation only when the date is fixed. A reservation ordered while you are still hunting for a slot can lapse before you reach the counter.
