Where Bengaluru applicants submit their files

Most visa applications lodged in the city proceed through VFS Global, whose main centre has long been at Global Tech Park in Langford Town, off Richmond Road. The US consulate question

A US consulate opened in Bengaluru in January 2025, but it began without visa services, and we could not find an announcement that interviews have started there. At the time of writing, Bengaluru applicants still book biometrics and the interview at another post, most frequently Chennai or Hyderabad, and travel for it.

The US does not request for a flight itinerary as a required document, so do not buy anything for the interview itself. What Bengaluru applicants do need is a domestic plan for the trip to the interview city, since biometrics and the interview are on separate days. Confirm the present position on the US Embassy website prior to booking.

Flights from BLR that suit a visa itinerary

Kempegowda has one of the wider long-haul networks in the south, so many itineraries can start and end in Bengaluru without a domestic leg. At the time of writing, non-stop services include:

• Europe: Frankfurt on Lufthansa and London Heathrow on British Airways. Other European cities have been served non-stop in recent seasons, so confirm the current schedule.
• North America: San Francisco on Air India. Other US and Canadian cities are one stop away.
• Australia: Sydney non-stop.
• Asia and the Gulf: Singapore, Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi and several Southeast Asian cities.

Where there is no direct flight, the usual one-stop connections are Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi for Europe and North America, Singapore for Australia and East Asia, and Frankfurt or London for onward European cities. An itinerary such as Bengaluru to Frankfurt to Vienna is what a real traveller from the city would book.

Details Bengaluru applicants commonly get wrong

• Starting the itinerary from the wrong city. If you live and work in Bengaluru, begin from BLR. An itinerary from Delhi with a Bengaluru address and employer invites a question.
• Leave dates that do not match. Many applicants here are salaried employees in technology firms, and the employer's leave letter is checked against the flight dates. Get the letter issued for the same dates.
• Ignoring the airport's distance. BLR is far north of the city. This is irrelevant to the visa, but relevant when you later purchase the real ticket with a 2 am departure.
• Applying to the wrong Schengen country. Apply to the country where you will spend the most nights, not the one with the earliest appointment at the Bengaluru centre.
